Samarkand's Hidden Gem
We found Sherxan House suddenly through Booking dot com. The hotel looks very modest from the street. We arrived quite late in the evening in the dark already and the first look was a bit bugging. But when we stepped into the cozy courtyard we wound ourselves in an Orient fairytale from "1001 nights". Aziz - the chief of the house - greeted us warmly; on the table near reception awaited us a pot of hot green tea and a pleasant selection of the Uzbek sweets and nuts. The hotel itself is a bit eclectic but cozy and very home-like - after a long day in the crazy local desert highways being there was very relaxing. Aziz knows everything about Samarkand and so were all his recommendations very welcome. He did for us in the morning a quick trip to the local bakery's to show how they make real Uzbek bread. The breakfasts were rich and served-made in a very local way which gives an extra dimension to staying there. The rooms were nothing special but they had an air conditioner and enough good beds - what else can need a traveller. The bonus is that Registan Square is not very far and over the street is located the grocery store where it is possible to get cold beer (this isn't usual in Uzbekistan).
We went in Sherxan house two nights and all time there was very pleasant. Thank You, Aziz!

Lovely place and owner.
The beds were very firm and I was concerned about not sleeping well but no issues. We slept fine and therefore no need to change rooms. The room is quite small but ok for sleeping.
Good wifi at the property and air con in the room. TV in room but only local channels so we didn't use.
The location is very good, a few minutes walk from the bazaar and less than 10 minute walk to the Registan.
Upon arrival we were given a city map and advised places to visit and what was within walking distance. We noticed the same map being sold in the tourist information shop.
The reason for the 5 star review is the host and his family who were absolutely lovely ensuring we were ok and had everything we needed. Upon returning from dinner and exploring we were offered watermelon.
Breakfast was included in the price and was plentiful and again very nice. We had choice of porridge, omelette in additional to fruit, bread and jam.
I would definitely recommend this place to others visiting. When leaving the owner even gave advice on how much transport to our next destination should be so the taxi did not try to over charge us.

Semerkand is a must see place
Rooms are not big but you have everything you need including new bathrooms.
They are clean people and so everything in the room.
