Great option in central Ulaaanbaatar

Centrally located in Ulaabaatar, just ten or fifteen minutes walk fron Sükhbaatar Square, Hotel Bayangol looks the typical Soviet-style block, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, with everything you need (kettle, AC). Front desk staff were pleasant and efficient, changed some US dollars for us, and helped us when we needed to find a hospital(!) The beds in particular were very comfortable, especially after two weeks in gers!
The attached Bayangol Restaurant does a slap-up buffet breakfast, complete with eggs station and a surprisingly good selection of other breakfast goodies.

Time for an upgrade of the bathrooms

The hotel is in a reasonable location, being walking distance from the main square.
The staff on the front desk are helpful.
The evening meal is good but breakfast is best described as average.

Great location and that's why you stay here.

This hotel has a great location in Ulaabantaar, can walk in many different directions and explore the city. The rooms are only ok, our room in particular was really not that nice, the other members of our party had a room that was more updated than ours, but either way you stay here for the location not for the hotel room. The breakfast was good, and after 14 days on the road we were quite happy to have laundry service available, not overly expensive, and a joy to have it done for us.

A hotel that has seen better days: the common areas could use some serious work: the elevators are only accessible via stairs (a bad idea if you have heavy luggage). Breakfast (held in a restaurant reminiscent of Soviet times) is poor and of mediocre quality. In the room: the bathroom could use a makeover and sometimes smelled stinky. The bed is very comfortable, and housekeeping is prompt and more than satisfactory, but the curtains on the windows don't block out the light (bring an eye mask if you're sensitive to light), and they aren't soundproofed, so the noise from nearby Chingis Avenue can disturb your sleep!
Overall, I'd recommend the staff—friendly, polite, and willing to help, but it's clearly an overrated hotel.
