Great place!
I can highly recommend this place! It's very safe as you need your card for many doors. It's very modern and the staff is fun and friendly. The room was very clean, super comfy, and had everything I needed.

Very lousy experience staying there. Room smells of mold, very moldy smell. Pillow, blankets mattress all had a ver strong smell. Overall experience is bad. Not recommended.

Lovely designed hotel in a perfect location
Stayed in the single room (without a window) for 4 nights and it was a great base. Staff were OK - I'm sure they would have been friendly if you needed anything! The location is brilliant and walking distance to everything you need. Only took around 40 minutes at most in a grab to get to the airport.
My only downside to this hotel is the steepness of the ladder to get up to the bed and the bed was as solid as a rock (which seems to be very common here in Malaysia). The best was so hard I had to sleep on the duvet and on any clothes i could to make it softer. The ladder would not be suitable for certain people and I struggled with my fear of heights getting up and down!

5star hostel
Kooning hostel was more of a hotel. Modern, clean and well maintained throughout.
We stayed in a double bunk room. The bedding was clean, the room was spotless and the air conditioning was fantastic.
As backpackers, the price we paid we got more than we expected. So we have no complaints.
If I was to offer positive criticism I would say the WiFi was weak at peak times. We also experienced a fire alarm early in the morning, as the front desk was unmanned until 8am there wasn’t anyone to take responsibility. The emergency number was called and all guests were told it was safe to re-enter the hostel even though nobody had checked the property.
I would recommend anyone to stay here. Great location and area.

Best Budget Hotel!
I booked 1 bed in this hotel for 2 nights. The hotel was new, modern, clean, and the location was nice.
The hotel itself is located in China town, restaurants, bus stop, shopping mall, breakfast stalls, traditional market, the party area, are within walking distance from this hotel, but this hotel is far from the noise.
The hotel was clean, modern, and new.
What I like about this budget hotel is the option to just book the bed (like a hostel), but you'll only get 1 room mate. For those who wants to save money, definitely this hotel is for you.
The ladder to top bunk was firm and strong, no need to be scared if you sleep in the top bunk. There were 2 big drawers under the bed that you can use to keep your bag save. Big enough to put my small carrier.
Bathroom was clean, and the hot water worked pretty well, too well if I may say because sometimes it keeps warm even though I tried to make it cool.
Staff were also attentive and friendly. You can fill your bottle with the water available at the common room.
I definitely will stay here again if I ever back to Penang.
