Must Stay With Unbelievable Experience

It is already out of this world stepping in Koyasan, for me it is more unbelievable than Kyoto, it is like film set, with everything manicured from the street, trees and house,
This ryokan garden all well sculpted and you entered rooms of buddhist treasures, there's indoor and outdoor onsen,
The dining hall serves the best vegetarian meals I have in my life.
I attended the 6am morning prayer to learn more about prayers and meditations

Original

Original experience, welcome, rustic room, one sleeps on a mattress not very thick even the tatami... no toilet or bathroom in the room... Japanese vegetarian dinner sitting on the floor... original meal

Overnight in an active temple

Overnight at Fukuchiin Temple in Koyasan (wonderful temple complex with beautiful Japanese garden) is a very special experience. One should be aware that it is an active temple and not a hotel with high comfort. Experience is clearly in the foreground, not comfort. Furnishing, standard of installations are lagging behind, not only compared to the rest of (also rural) Japan.
The room is simply decorated in Japanese style. In the evening it is laid out with tatami mats to sleep on. The toilets of most rooms are located in the hallway as shared facilities. However, we were lucky enough to get a room with its own toilet and a laundry facility in the room.
Before arriving at the hotel you must take off your street shoes. There are slippers available (if and when they will be cleaned and how many before me wore these shoes with whatever foot conditions, I preferred not to wonder). However, the temple itself is very cold, wide and winding, so you would rather fall back on the slippers.
The overnight stay includes a vegan dinner and breakfast. There are no choices whatsoever. Food is taken separately in an extra room. It is presented artfully, is very authentic and was therefore totally unusual for us. The dinner was still half okay (soy in all shapes and conditions); however, the breakfast was hardly edible for our taste.
The on-site onsen (hot springs including outdoor pool and sauna) can be used and you can attend the Buddhist service at 6:00 a.m.
The room must be vacated at 9:00 a.m.

Special experience, but with clear limitations

Overnight stay at Fukuchiin Temple in Koyasan is a very special experience. One should be aware at all times that it is an active temple and not a hotel with high comfort. Experience is clearly in the foreground, not comfort.
The room is simple, lined with tatami mats and overall sufficient. The toilets are located in the hallway as communal facilities. Overnight stay includes dinner and breakfast.
Dinner is purely vegan and served in a separate area. It is very authentic, sometimes unusual, but overall tasty. During dinner, the futons are already laid out in the room. Optionally, the in-house onsen can be used. We slept well overall.
At 6:00 in the morning you can attend the Buddhist service – a truly impressive experience. This is followed by breakfast, also vegan in the style of a monk's breakfast. However, this was hardly edible for our taste.
The room must be vacated at 9:00 a.m. Overall, I rate the overnight stay as an interesting and culturally valuable experience, but I personally wouldn’t repeat it – especially with regard to the price of almost 500 EUR for one night.

Our stay at Fukuchi-In was amazing. We slept in a traditional japanese room and had a delicious dinner and breakfast in another incredibly beautiful room, shared with other guests.
We attended the morning prayers and enjoyed the indoor and outdoor onsens.
There was heating in the room :)
