Small fine hotel
A small hotel in the Staten neighborhood, the most beautiful district of The Hague. A particularly sweet Owner and all the care you need for a wonderful stay within walking distance of the special beautiful art museum and of the coast. Not for thrill seekers but for quiet enjoyers.

Dodgy impression / management problems
The "Excelsior" in the "Statenlaan" has no parking space. If public parking spaces are available nearby, you must pay by debit card at the machine (2,70 € p. h / 1 p.m. to 12 a.m. ). (The machine categorically rejected my card. A cumbersome payment via app is apparently possible.) Hotel entrance (after Waiting time) via an inconspicuous doorbell. Retro charm, creaking wooden floors, narrow/steep (not harmless) wooden staircase to the 2nd floor. Stock
Pros: Multilingual / nice operator, great mattress, very clean, quaint / loving Mood, next door great bakery / cafe and shops, near the port, tram
Cons: Tight bathroom, hot shower water only after Waiting time and temporarily, weak bathroom venting, moisture entry through hand-sized / moldy hole in the bathroom ceiling, room ventilation cumbersome via balcony door, insufficient heating, WLAN (despite password) not working, curious mini-TV, in the 2nd floor. Floor bouncing roof noise (air vent ?), cumbersome access with two keys, hotel entrance door jams considerably!
Operator is probably a bit overwhelmed with management.

Broken Thermostat .
What the Hotel had to offer was good. My wife enjoyed the massage 5*. Outdoor pool.5*.Outdoor jacuzzi .3*, Hard to enter and to set controls. Indoor pool.5*and jacuzzi did not try. In general, nice Hotel. NOW THE BIG NO NO. ....THE ROOM. Well, room #114 to start. Extremely small. Night table lamp on and off switch did not work. Light only worked if plugged in. Air conditioner blowing cold air. No controller for heat or cold air. Service desk said to block the vent on the floor with a pillow. This is a bit much. Asked to change the room. Reply was no , you booked from Expedia. We slept in our clothes with blankets over us. Next day ,complained about the room and got another one. Well larger room yes. But why was it not done the night before. Oh you booked with Expedia. Did not complain . Got room 111. Thinking HURRAY. NO. This room was the same problem with the air conditioner. FREEZING. This time I put 2 pillows on the vent with a chair on them to keep the freezing from coming in. Another night of sleeping in our Clothes. The rest of our family were in 2 other rooms on the 2nd floor and had no problems.

Perfect
Well furnished, clean and in a perfect location to reach the center or the seafront. The owner is very kind and the breakfast is not only plentiful but also delicious. Everything taken care of down to the smallest detail. Very refined and elegant furnishings. I would happily stay here again. Highly recommended.

Warm and wonderful
The Excelsior is welcoming, very comfortable, and located in a lovely neighborhood. Nearby there are restaurants and shops just a few steps from the door. It is also a short walk to The World Forum where I had a business conference during the week. More than anything else, the host Ed is warm, thoughtful, and goes out of his way to help you with your needs. I cannot say enough about Ed. The Hotel is lovely and he makes it an experience you won’t forget. The breakfast is copious with ample servings of anything you might want. If you want an experience that is personable and makes you feel well cared for this is the place to stay!
