An Unforgettable Royal Experience at Mitsis Selection Laguna!
From the moment we arrived, we were treated like true royalty. We received a warm personal welcome from the Hotel Director, who kindly escorted us to our extraordinary Royal Suite—an absolute "WOW" factor!
Throughout our stay, the entire staff was remarkably pleasant, attentive, and always one step ahead. A huge thank you to Konstantinos from Guest Relations, who seamlessly handled all our à la carte dining reservations.
We also particularly enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at the spa, where we had an amazingly invigorating massage that left us completely refreshed.
While all the restaurants were great, the Cretan Tavern was by far our absolute favorite—a warm thank you to Antigoni for her amazing hospitality and wonderful service! We also want to give a special shoutout to Aris at the bar, who kept our drinks flowing and took such great care of us.
It was an unforgettable vacation, and we left with wonderful memories. If you are looking for top-tier Cretan hospitality, luxury, and a team that genuinely cares, look no further. We will definitely be back!

Mitsis Laguna - amazing!
A wonderful trip to a Mitsis hotel as always from the fantastic staff and delicious food and drink, it was another superb holiday. Special mention to Spiros in the Italian restaurant, Konstantinos for looking after us in guest relations and finally Nikos and Billy at the poolside bar.

Not quite a 5 star, but still a high-end, solid 4 Star hotel
We stayed for 9 nights at the Mitsis Selection Laguna in late August 2026.
It's advertised as a 5-star, but it's not quite at that level compared to other 5-star hotels I've stayed at (it's a very good 4-star though). The hotel itself is clean with well- maintained if a little tired looking rooms, a decent range of food & drinks, and some good-sized swimming pools.
Here is the breakdown!
Location: Only a 20-25 minutes bus transfer from the airport and right next to the beach.
Weather: We got lucky. Was gorgeous and sunny every day with temperatures around 32-35 degrees. Also a nice breeze coming in from the sea.
Reception & Concierge: Check-in was super quick with friendly staff and no queue. Concierge very helpful booking taxis.
Rooms: A little underwhelming. We had a two-room apartment with a double bed plus two single beds for the kids - rooms separated by a sliding door. Beds and pillows were comfy, and the rooms were clean with aircon. Bathroom was small with a basic shower. Had a small but cramped balcony overlooking the sea. There is just enough wardrobe space for two adults, but not enough for kids.
Room Service: Room service was great. Free mini-bar in room was topped up with water, fizzy pop, and beer every morning. Bed linen and towels were changed on request.
Buffet Food: Morning, afternoon and evening buffet food was pretty good with lots of variety on meat, fruit, bread, pasta, fish etc. Longest we had to queue for a table was 10 minutes at peak times. Buffet area was chaotic at times but staff just about had a handle on it.
Restaurant Food: Biggest advice here is book well in advance on the Hotel App or you won't get a decent evening time reservation, or even worse there is no availability at all! Choice of Greek, Fish, Italian, Asian, BBQ or Brunch Restaurants. Food in the restaurant is superior to the buffet, but nothing spectacular - not bad though! There is also a Sushi bar upstairs but I didn't try that.
Pools: Make sure you claim your sunbeds with towels by 8:30am, or you will NOT get a sunbed. The hotel states you shouldn't do this but the staff turn a blind eye! The main pool is busy with lots of loud music, pool games and younger kids which we avoided. The other pool is a very cool design and is much quieter. There is also a smaller pool for younger kids with a slide. Sunbeds are really good quality and comfy. There is also an indoor Spa pool which you have to pay to use.
Pool Bars: There are a couple of pool bars by each pool with a good selection of soft drinks, cocktails and snacks (i.e. pizza, cakes, fruit, biscuits etc). The Ice Cream selection by the main pool is amazing and very tasty.
Staff: 90% of the staff were really nice and friendly. There were a couple of grumpy staff members behind the pool bars - but that was quite entertaining seeing them getting annoyed by tourists.
Spa: I had a sports massage from Vasilis who is big, powerful dude that took no prisoners (only because I told him to though!). Best sports massage I've EVER had and I'd highly recommend. Also had a relaxing massage on another day which was also great. Spa has two pools, one cool, one warm/hot which are free for an hour if you have a treatment. Your looking at around 75-100 Euros depending on the type of massage you want.
Entertainment: They have various evening musicians outside the main bar of ahem, varying musical talent shall we say! There is a very small theatre with various dance and entertainment shows which seems suited for younger kids.
Beach: If you don't get a pool sunbed then there are plenty of them outside the hotel on the beach. The seabed is VERY rocky so you'll need decent footwear, and the sea was quite rough when we were there. Snorkelling is OK, not masses of fish but enough to see for a 30 minute swim. There is a bar on the beach that does great burgers and kebabs!
Nature: If you like cats then this hotel is for you. Lots of different fury characters that have there own patch! Also there is a spectacular display of roosting swallows at dusk around the restaurant area - there are literally hundreds and hundreds of them flying around! Also saw some lovely sunsets on the beach.
Sports: There is outdoor gym with several classes like yoga, pilates, stretching and weights sessions. There is also an indoor gym and a games room with air hockey and pool tables.
In summary the Laguna is close to a 5 star, but needs to modernise the rooms to the same level as the main reception area to get there.
Would we return?

Not a 5 star hotel
I don’t normally write reviews, but after spending two weeks here, I felt I had to share our experience. Unfortunately, this is definitely not what I would consider a 5-star hotel.
Check-in was awful. Our booking was incorrect, with my wife and child missing from the reservation. While other guests received welcome drinks and towels, we received neither.
The hotel feels dated. The rooms are small, with limited storage, and you can hear everything from the surrounding rooms and corridors, making it difficult to sleep. The linen has rips and tears in the sheets. There was no suitable space for the Nespresso machine, so we had to place it beside the bed. The Starbucks coffee pods also felt underwhelming. Bathroom soap was never refilled during our stay.
Breakfast queues are extremely long, so arriving before 9:30 a.m. is essential. The gym is also old and small.
The kids’ club was disappointing, as the staff did not make the children feel particularly welcome. The entertainment and kids’ disco repeated the same songs every night and were not worth rushing to. However, the Disney show and bubble show were fantastic and were highlights for the children.
The “sunbed police” were frustrating. The rule about reserving sunbeds with towels was enforced selectively, and towels were simply folded and left on the chairs, achieving nothing. There are also not enough sunbeds, and on our first day we were left against a wall away from the main pool.
We were offered premium wine for the rest of our stay, but after receiving it three times, it stopped without explanation, even after we mentioned it.
The evening pool bar service was poor. Georgios was extremely unfriendly, and his drinks were not as good as those prepared by daytime staff such as Niko.
The beach is rocky and unsuitable for young children, with several guests returning with injuries. The spa is also underwhelming, consisting of a cold pool, whirlpool and hammam, especially as guests must pay extra, although the massage was good.
For the price, we expected a much higher standard of quality, service and facilities.
The positives are that the food and drinks are very good, the Disney and bubble shows were excellent, and most staff were friendly. The customer service team, especially Konstantinos and Flavia, were amazing and very helpful, particularly while my husband had to work during our stay.
Overall, we expected much more and would not rate this as a 5-star experience. If you have young children, I would recommend considering other hotels with better daytime entertainment if that is what you are looking for.

Very good family friendly hotel. All inclusive package includes great drinks, resort and rooms very clean and tidy. Kids club disappointing, also not much close to resort but perfect if not looking for much more than pool and sun.
