My wife and I had an amazing stay at this hotel. The room was spacious and had a whirlpool tub. Breakfast was included and was great - they cook it to order. The location is great and quiet, close to downtown (walking distance about 15 minutes). The property has a spa - great massage. I would definitely stay at this hotel when visiting St John’s

I booked the room with Spa at the Monastery a week ago and paid in full, $275. I had plans made to go out the night that I booked, so I was all excited to come and stay and then go out and enjoy myself and come back to enjoy the beautiful room. When I came into the lobby to get checked in, I was told that there would be an additional $250 held on my card. I bank with Koho, and even though it is considered to be a Mastercard, it functions as a debit account. What this means is that I walked in there after spending $275 the week before, and had $270 left to my name to go enjoy myself. The check in process took almost every cent I had and left me with $20 to my name. I was surprised and upset and voiced this to the staff checking me in, and she actually laughed. My plans were ruined. If the room could have been cancelled at that point I would have walked away and never come back to this hotel again. The room was lovely but the first time i used the washroom and went to dry my hands on the hand towel, the entire metal towel rack released off the wall mount and fell down and hit my bare foot. It’s a beautiful place but my trip was completely ruined.

Disappointing experience for a hotel positioned as a higher-end spa property. Breakfast was poor quality with very limited options, room amenities were basic and not enough for the duration of our stay, the blinds did not adequately block the light, and the kitchenette was poorly equipped with one fork and a pan that wasn’t conduction. Restaurant staff were openly disciplined by a manager in front of guests, which was uncomfortable and unprofessional. The spa experience was particularly disappointing. I went to the spa intending to book treatments for both my husband and myself, walked through the facility and retail area, and was never acknowledged by the receptionist. I ultimately left without booking treatments or purchasing products. We were also called at 7:45 am. on Sunday and told to move our vehicle because construction was taking place, with no advance notice. The called did it say hello, didn’t apologize. Overall, the level of service and attention to the guest experience did not match our expectations for a spa hotel at this price point. The only positive point was the young lady that checked us in and checked us out. She was efficient and pleasant. She moved us for a few hours on Sunday morning as the tar fumes were coming into our room and they were painting directly outside our room door so we would not have been able to exit the room with our bags. The work being done was not urgent and was a planned activity so guests should have been notified in advance.

The staff were great, the breakfast was spectacular and there was ample parking. We have previously stayed here many years ago and the rooms are a bit dated. They are clean however. I would recommend staying at this hotel.

Was not told in detail where the breakfast was. Had to go outside and another building upstairs for ice. Floors were dirty. Also if jetted tubs are available more towels are needed and all options should work on the tubs
