Quirky hotel in a good location

I stayed at the Moxy Downtown Halifax for one night, mid-week, in early June. I booked direct and got the “Cars stay free” deal. The room rate included parking and a $50 CAD Esso gas card. Parking is in an underground garage with an elevator to the hotel. Tight, but no issues with my mid-sized SUV. Check-in was easy. I really enjoyed the décor and found myself smiling a few times at something on one of the walls. I did not eat here but did have a drink in the bar. There was a large high school graduation party there so there were more “kids” around than adults.
I was in room 606 and it had two twin beds. The room set up is unique and I liked almost all of it. The one issue is that the very large TV is sideways to the way the beds face. To watch it you needed to sit sideways on the bed…there were big pillows to make this semi-workable. Everything looked newish and worked. My only issue (and it is a pet peeve of mine) was the sticky floors. Kind of grossed my out, but I just made sure I had my slippers on. Not much of a view from this room.
I walked over to the Halifax Public Gardens in the morning…I recommend if you have the time. Overall, a quirky and nice hotel that I would have no problem recommending to a friend.

Great price and just a short walk downtown, as well as friendly and capable staff. Also a fun lobby with old games.
Two negatives would be a lack of surfaces in the room, and sound concerns.
There is a fold down desk, and a small side table with limited space. Beyond that is just a small raised luggage foldable and the windowsill.
We could also hear into the hall and outside more easily than I would have guessed, especially considering we were 6 floors up. I would suggest bringing ear plugs or just a white noise device.

Great modern hotel with some personality. Walking distance to the Citadel and boardwalk with dozens of bars and rstaurants.

Loved it!

I've always wondered why hotels have such large rooms (2 beds). I don't plan to spend much time in my hotel room and that is where The Moxy was GREAT. These are small rooms with essentials. A bed, small bedside tables, hooks for coats etc, underbed storage. Nice bathroom with a great shower. A free welcome drink, games in the lobby.... clearly geared to the younger traveler, but worked for this nearly retired couple! Underground parking was a big bonus.

The room were clean yet had no chairs, tables or sofa. Felt like I was in a prison cell. Will never stay there again for the price it cost.
