Solinger Transformer House Hotel

Hotel Trafohaus, a gorgeous gem in Solingen - Gräfrath.
A hotel for people who are looking for individuality, peace and quiet without boredom.
A unique place to switch off.
The other hotel, a one-room hotel without a restaurant kitchen and yet so honest.
A hidden eye-catcher with an adjacent integrated and century-old monastery wall. (in the bathroom)
About the hotel itself: the reception was more of a waitress in the coffee house (100m further on). (Here is an envelope for you, please fill in the contents! When I asked where the included parking lot was, the waitress said: no idea!
Thank God another waitress knew more and pointed out to me that the parking lot was opposite the transformer house in front of the garbage cans!)
And after another 15 minutes I got the key for the transformer house.
Daily towel changes are included, but it must be said that the transformer house has a certain basement humidity. Bedding and towels are always damp!
The furnishings, such as the couch, are very dingy and quite worn.
The electricity in the house doesn't work properly, so you have to feel your way up the stairs in the dark from bottom to top, a broken fire alarm wakes you up in the middle of the first night at 4 a.m. (there were no candles or fireplace, the outside temperature was 30°) of course the fire alarm was at the very top of the tower, so when you look for the same screaming alarm in the dark you bang your head on the top landing because the light doesn't work.
In conclusion: quite nice for just one night or a weekend, but for 5 days like mine, the Trafohaus is less suitable.
Unfortunately, there are no recommended restaurants with "typical Solingen" cuisine in Solingen-Gräfrath.

Romantic 1-of-a-kind experience

We stayed in hotel trafohaus on a friends recommendation and were not disappointed. The place is the opposite of the soulless 5-star hotels you find anywhere in the business world. Located in the center of romantic Gräfrath part of Solingen, this former electric transformer station was repurposed into a 1-room home and then later into a "hotel" (actually guest room would be more fitting because there's no other rooms. The ambience is fantastic, the place oozes cozyness as Peter (the owner) used to live there for 11 years before deciding to rent it out. It definitely feels like a home, not like a hotel. There is no breakfast included but the "Kaffeehaus" just 100m down the road offers a fantastic breakfast. I definitely recommend for people who are tired of the usual 5-star hotels and are looking for a special experience.

… schon oft hat uns diese Kombination begeistert!
In der „Altstadt“ von Gräfrath ist und bleibt das Hotel Trafohaus unser Favorit für Kurzreisen nach Solingen.
Es ist spannend, zu entdecken, was auf ungefähr 20 qm an Komfort geboten werden kann - ein dickes Lob an den Inhaber und Designer!!!

Liebevoll eingerichtet

Ein liebevoll eingerichtetes Kleinod, wir haben einen schönen Kurzurlaub hier verbracht. Frühstück und Abendessen vor dem Haus, mit toller Musik von der CD.In unmittelbarer Nähe befindet sich ein guter Bäcker, Kaffee ist im Haus vorhanden.
Gerne wieder!

im Herzen der wundervollen Altstadt, ein Wohnerlebnis der besonderen Art; historisches Kulturgut mit viel Gespür für Stil und Authentizität zum Leben erweckt - ein Ort zum Genießen, Schauen, zur Ruhe kommen, am knisternden Kaminfeuer auf dem gemütlichen Sofa oder auf dem bequemen Hochbett ( auch ohne Kamin kuschelig warm)- vom Komfort her an alles gedacht // tolles Essen im Kaffeehaus, ob Brunch oder Abendessen - dringend reservieren! ) mit superfreundlichen Mitarbeitern in heimeliger Atmosphäre- wir kommen sehr gerne wieder!!!
