A hotel that Stephen King would love !!!!!!
There are exceptional views on the upper floors. One side the building faces the town and the other the mountains. Either side is great, especially when you awakened from a short nap by the deep hypnotizing chimes echoing from the town clock. ( note: sleep with your window open its like being in a scene from The Sound of Music even though that was filmed in nearby Austria ) The porcelain baby dolls and other remnants of what could be from the German home shopping channel are scattered at various parts through out the hotel. They just add to the strange aura of the place a la movie drama scenes.
To be fair the hotel is very clean, the rooms spacious and very comfortable and it’s very affordable at approx 70 Euros per night for a double. It certainly deserves 3 stars for that ! However if you need something while staying here before 8 am or after 8 pm your out of luck. Even then trying to find someone who works here during those hours is like playing a game of hide and seek. There is a lovely and friendly woman named Marie who can be seen scurrying about like a squirrel occasionally in the halls during the daytime but that’s if your lucky.
The hotel hallways at night were sedate, dark and empty of life except for people sleeping quietly in their rooms. Calling the number located in the hotel folder for the front desk just gives you the shrill ring of a fax machine when it picks up. With the average age of visitors during my visit ... being 65 years + if you have health problems or are just scared of the dark this might not be a good place to stay.
Sadly the hotel ( their web site is just in german ) and the town seem to only want to cater to Germans as even the highly technical computerized hotel room availability board near the Train Station is only in German as are most brochures and a lot of hotels only take a European credit card ( sorry no Visa, Mastercard or Amex here cash only please !) 95% of the people only speak German. This can make for a highly frustrating experience if you are trying to do basic tasks here like eating out or booking a room. So as with most of rural Germany bring a good translation application or book if you visit here and don’t expect the locals in these towns to welcome you with open arms as they seem more annoyed and amused by tourists than anything. ( NOTE : not that they should have to speak anything other than German )
I found it very surprising that a town that is so beautiful and so domestically touristy could be so stubborn about wanting to expand and cater to a potential huge North American or Asian clientele. Maybe that is its charm ! They have a long way to go to lure more English tourists here.
PLEASE NOTE IF YOUR AN INTERNET JUNKIE this is not your hotel. There is a 24 hour 500 mb download limit and according to hotel receptionist ( when I was able to find her ) DAS is it ! no more internet after that for 24 hours. I pleaded... I begged... I offered 20 EUROS and.... NO LUCK...... sadly I took to the streets to find an open internet.. connection.... Even the German hero David Hasselhoff couldn’t have convinced her.
