Lovely location - could be so much more!

Where to begin?? This hotel is in a prime location right on the edge of a river with lovely views of Shkoder Castle. Easy parking and access. However... They advertise a bar - but do not serve alcohol!! A dry hotel??? The rooms are "scandinavian style" pine timber lined, but are somewhat cramped. We were the only guests when we stayed and were given a choice of which room to have. We opted for one looking over the river. The en-suite was a wet room style, with the shower by the door so that having showered the floor then remained wet, meaning that a visit to the loo or basin meant paddling across! We were there one night only (thank goodness). When we arrived the main dining area (just below our room) was being prepared for a children's party which should have hinted at how the hotel would work out. Basically it seems as though the place is set up as a restaurant (alcohol free!!!) with rooms over. We ate there too as it is out of town. I had a pizza, but my wife chose chicken fillets with chips as she wanted something plain. There was a chicken meal on the menu with a sauce but we avoided that. The pizza was fine, but the chicken came out covered in a sauce which neither of us could find tasty. It was a huge portion too but we had to leave it. When the waiter (finally) arrived to clear the table we said sorry we couldn't eat it and explained why (the sauce) to be told "Well you shouldn't have ordered something you didn't want!" Breakfast was an interesting experience too. As we were the only guests we could hardly expect a buffet, but we were simply told to sit and wait! So on one plate each came a cheese omelette, slice of cheese, rough cut cucumber and tomato and a bowl of plum jam. There was fresh bread too. An interesting start to the day! So I'm sorry but we do not recommend this place - unless you want to do a children's party!!
